As I am writing this, it is the day after election day 2020. A day that I am sure will go down in history in the United States. Now we have to remember, and I will say it again, it doesn’t matter who is in the White House, the Senate or the House of Representatives, Jesus is still King of kings and Lord of lords! Hallelujah!
In my daily reading I read through I John 4. Make the time to read this chapter. It is so full of absolutely great teaching. I mean, the whole Bible is full of that, but this chapter is especially eye opening and speaks directly to me. In the 4th verse John writes, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” So, what do we have to fear brothers and sisters? No matter what happens, no matter what the outcome of this election is, no matter what happens to us today, He is still greater. And to top all of that off, the bible tells us in Romans 8:28 this, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” Now that is truth! ALL things, from presidential elections, to sicknesses to car wrecks to…well you name it work together for good. Think of the worst thing that you have ever gone through or are going through right now. That my friends, can work together for good for us.
Have you ever read this scripture, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me (Psalms 51:10).” David wrote this Psalm at a time when he was going through a very low time in his life. He had sinned and was begging God to forgive him and to create a new heart in him. It was one of those “All things working together for good” kind of things. Now please don’t go out and commit adultery with someone and then murder their spouse just to prove a point. That would not be wise. But no matter what we do, it can be used for good. Somehow God, who loves us unconditionally, can turn it to work together for our good.
And often times what I find is that the circumstances that I go through are the same kind of circumstances that some one else is suffering through and that I can help them along on their journey. Look at what Paul writes to us in II Corinthians 1:4-5, “ Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” See, God comforts us and we can in turn comfort those who need comforting. What a deal! We go through it so God can use us. And in that way, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
